The VIU Summer Institute on ageing is intended to deepen the understanding of the ageing process ranging from some basic notions of the medical and epidemiological literature, to an extensive treatment of economics (pensions and retirement, ageing in society and intergenerational relationships) and social sciences (role of family networks). Special attention will be devoted to ICT, "domotics" and "intelligent homes" as a way to cope with ageing.

Who is it for:
The Summer Institute is addressed mainly to graduate and PhD students in economics, medicine, political science, psychology and sociology. Moreover, high level policy makers and high level officials in public and private institutions will be admitted if their background is adequate.

The summer school is co-organized by Venice International University, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Università Ca’Foscari Venezia, Université de Lausanne, Università degli Studi di Padova.

PakalKairysOn 5th of June 2017 two HUMRE's lead researchers organized a workshop named "Factors of well-being and mental health among the elderly".

The workshop took place at Vilnius University Faculty of Philosophy (Universiteto str. 9/1, Vilnius) auditorium 313

Two Lithuanian research projects on the well-being of the elderly and the research results have been presented during the workshop, ragarding socioeconomical, interpersonal and other factors as well as their impact on well-being and mental health. The need for research on the welfare of elderly people, the practical significance of such research, associated methodological challenges and prosects for future research have also been discussed. In addition to that, workshop participants have been introduced to the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) and the potencial of application of its results.

SHARE will be represented at the European Survey Research Association (ESRA) 2017 conference in Lisbon, Portugal, with several speakers and an info booth.
